Step 1

Firstly, you will need to heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Gently fry the onion for 5 minutes until it is soft. Then you will add the garlic and cook this for 1 minute. Then add the oats making sure to fry for 2 minutes more. After that, pour it into a vessel and leave it to chill.

Step 2

Moreover, you will then add the rest of the ingredients to the cooled mixture and make sure to mix well with your hands. Then season to taste and shape into 8 patties.

Step 3

Continuing on you will then need to heat the oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. You will heat the remaining olive oil in a large, non-stick frying pan and make sure to sear the burgers on each side until it is well coloured (3-4 mins). Then you will transfer to a baking sheet and make sure to cook in the oven for 10-15 mins. Then serve in rolls with Tangy tomato chutney (see 'goes well with') and cucumber slices.

Step 4

Lastly, for the chutney heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a pan. Add 1 finely chopped onion. Then you will cook for 5 minutes until it is softened. Then stir in 1 crushed garlic clove making sure to cook for another minute. Then add 1 tbsp sundried tomato paste, a 400g can of good-quality chopped tomatoes and a dash of sugar. Then gently cook for 20-25 mins until rich and thick. Lastly, you can season to taste, then leave to cool before serving.
