Crispy Five-Spice Chicken Wings

These Crispy Five-Spice Chicken Wings are a delectable and multifunctional snack that's suitable well for any occasion. Chinese five-spice powder, soy sauce, and garlic blend to make a fantastic marinade that gives the wings a deep, rich flavour. Corn flour is added in order to give a glossy coating when grilled. These wings make a great party appetiser or satisfying snack on their own.

Step 1

Combine the garlic powder, soy sauce, and Chinese five-spice powder in a bowl. Place the chicken wings into the washbasin to make sure they're evenly covered in marinade. To allow the flavours to penetrate, marinate the wings for at least ten minutes.

Step 2

Dust the marinated wings with cornflour and toss again to coat well. When fried, the cornflour will contribute to a crispy outside.

Step 3

Heat up enough vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to completely submerge the wings. Heat the oil to 190°C, or 375°F.

Step 4

To prevent crowding, carefully drop a small number of the coated wings at a time into the heated oil. The wings should be fried for ten to twelve minutes, or until crispy and golden brown. After removing the wings with a slotted spoon, set them on a platter covered with paper towels to absorb extra oil.

Step 5

After every wing has been fried, place it on a serving plate. Serve the hot Crispy Five-Spice Chicken Wings with sesame seeds or chopped green onions as a garnish.
