In a mixing bowl, combine the besan (gram flour), red chili powder, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and salt.
Step 2
Gradually add water to the dry ingredients and whisk until you have a smooth and thick batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon but still flow easily. Set the batter aside.
